Thesis

Writing a thesis is a key component of any research-oriented program. After completing coursework, students in HEI’s research master’s program must produce a thesis (24 credits). This involves researching, synthesizing, and critically analyzing a specific multidisciplinary question of the student’s choosing. The student works under the supervision of two advisors, each a professor in a different department or faculty that participates in the program. Preparation involves two phases: developing and defending a research proposal, then writing the actual thesis itself.

Writing the research proposal

Students in the program develop and defend their thesis proposals as part of ETI-6010: Atélier de recherche, a required three-credit course. Once they have successfully completed this step, they can proceed with thesis research and writing.

Writing the thesis

For questions about the various phases of  thesis writing, students should consult the website of Université Laval’s Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies where they will find thesis writing guidelines (Rédaction de mémoire et de thèse).

Electronic thesis

All HEI students have the option of selecting electronic thesis submission, which has numerous advantages for the student.
